Motor Racing Legends Big Cat Challenge Confirmed as a Headline Race at Silverstone Festival 2023

Motor Racing Legend’s Jaguar Classic Challenge will be the centre of attention at a prime historic race event once again with a headline race-slot confirmed at the 2023 Silverstone Festival (formerly the Silverstone Classic). Riding high from the showcase feature grid at Le Mans Classic last season, an all-Jaguar race has been invited to star at this recently re-branded key UK historic race meeting to be held on bank-holiday weekend 25th – 27th August.

The Motor Racing Legends Big Cat Challenge Race will be a 50-minute contest for all models of Jaguar constructed prior to 1966.  Clearly the E-type model will play a starring role but sleek XK120 and XK140 models are encouraged alongside Mk1 and Mk2 saloons.  The ubiquitous C-type and D-type models representing the all-conquering 1950s era will be the jewels within a very exclusive grid featuring a pit-stop and open to two drivers.

Nick Wigley, Silverstone Festival Event Director commented, “Ever since the fifties, competition-prepared Jaguars have been huge crowd-pleasers at Silverstone and so it feels fitting that Motor Racing Legends are bringing the Big Cat Challenge Trophy to Silverstone Festival in a year when we’re proud to be celebrating 75 years of motorsport at Silverstone”.

Duncan Wiltshire, Chairman of Motor Racing Legends commented, ‘Motor Racing Legends is extremely proud to hold the Jaguar Classic Challenge within our race portfolio and to promote the Series on behalf of Jaguar Land Rover Classic.  Now in our third season with the Series, Motor Racing Legends continues to stage a headline race amongst the Jaguar Classic Challenge season.  2021 saw the 60th Anniversary E-type Challenge race at the Silverstone Classic plus in 2022 the Jaguar Classic Challenge race at Le Mans Classic.  The MRL Big Cat Challenge race at the re-branded Silverstone Festival will be one of the highlights of our season and I look forward to welcoming a huge array of Pre ’66 Jaguars to the grid in August’.

Qualifying for the Motor Racing Legends ‘Big Cat Challenge’ race will be held on the Friday of the Silverstone Festival and the race will be one of the features of the racing weekend on a programme of twenty races.
