On Wednesday 28th February, Motor Racing Legends launched the 2007 Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy with a drinks party at Pall Mall. Over 60 guests attended the launch, including Tim Keown, Chairman of the Royal Automobile Club, and Gregor Fisken – whose historic automobile dealership is supporting the series.
In his amusing address to the assembled guests, Tim Keown stated, “We are a Club which acts slowly. For those of you who weren’t here with us last year, I remind you that the Royal Automobile Club launched the Tourist Trophy in 1905 – and 101 years later launched the Woodcote Trophy.”
Gregor Fisken kindly loaned the fabulous 1955 Ferrari 500 Mondial, chassis 0536MD, to sit in the Rotunda at Pall Mall to welcome guests as they arrived. This Ferrari was styled by Scaglietti and has a 4-cylinder, Aurelio Lampredi-designed 1985cc engine. It was campaigned in period in the Mille Miglia, as well as at Monza and Imola.
Regulations for the 2007 Royal Automobile Club Woodcote Trophy can be downloaded from our Calendar page. In his brief speech, Duncan Wiltshire reinforced the fact that the series is for genuine cars running to period, pre-1956 specification, backed up by strict scrutineering such as physical checks on capacity. New for 2007 is the shift of focus away from overall results, and towards an increased level of competition within each class via a fixed class structure to run throughout the year.
